About Our Proud History:

In 1934, a Cleveland plumber named Henry Abell founded Elm Farm Dairy in Medina, Ohio. He sold bottled milk from the front of its plant. Henry痴 son Carl Abell ran the dairy operations.

1963- Stop'nGo opened its 1st store located on North Court & Highland Court in Medina. It was owned & operated by Carl & Ruth Abell. The need for home delivered milk had declined dramatically which forced consumers to change their shopping patterns towards supermarkets and convenience stores. Milk & dairy products were delivered by Elm Farm Dairy to these new stores.

1965- The 2nd Stop地Go store 82 opens at Sunset & Main Street in Rittman Ohio.

1979- Stop地Go had grown to as many as 15 locations. Elm Farm Dairy sold the milk business and owners Carl & Ruth Abell concentrated on expanding and operating their convenience store business.

1985- Stop地Go opened its newest prototype, store # 92, at 1033 South Court in Medina, Ohio. It featured a sit down ice cream parlor, expanded gasoline, and public restrooms.

1987- Owner Ruth Abell passed away. Daughter Becky Shotwell & husband Frank move to Medina from Cincinnati to run the family business. Becky had been working in operations for Stop'nGo corporate stores, a subsidiary of Sun Oil.

September 30, 1993: 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation family members bury a time capsule at the South Court street store. Grandfather Carl Abell, daughter Becky and husband Frank Shotwell pose with their four Shotwell children- Peter, Carl, Frank Jr. and Beth. The time capsule holds photos, momentos, family & employee predictions about Stop地Go and the c store industry.

1998- Becky becomes President & owner of Stop'nGo. Carl retires from Stop地Go to pursue traveling & his newest venture- The Elm Farm Ice Cream Museum and parlor.

July 1999- Valley City store opens.

October 2001- Lake & Lafayette Road store in Medina opens.

The store introduced a new food service Marketplace concept, Subway branded restaurant, car wash and expanded wine and coffee selections. The new upscale interior and exterior designs were recognized with prestigious Addy design awards. Stop地Go was featured in the March 2006 issue of Store Display Design ideas DDI.
